Nizam Songun

PT, DPT

Physical Therapist

I mainly grew up in Parsippany, NJ with my undergraduate studies being at Fairleigh Dickinson University (Madison campus). From there I went to New York Medical College for physical therapy. Growing up, I played a lot of sports which drove my passion into the field of physical therapy because I wanted to rehab athletes. I have been fortunate to be in the physical therapy field since I was 16 years old shadowing, working as an aide, and now as a clinical DPT.

Patients need to understand that although pain can be scary, it is a necessity for progress. Obviously, too much pain is not healthy but it should not be feared.

I am a clinical DPT member. As a clinician I treat patients according to the symptoms they present with. I really enjoy treating ankle sprains, any lower extremity deficit, and love to create wellness programs for the geriatric population.

I love the staff at Carroll Physical Therapy. There are so many of us and I have a unique relationship with every single staff member that is very dear to me. They make work very fun.

Outside of work, I enjoy sports, going to the gym and spending time with my family.

Bijay and Tony M

Both my husband and I recently had PT with Nizam at Carroll PT and were blown away with his attentiveness to our needs, his insight and understanding of how best to help us. We both feel Nizam helped us surpass our goals! Nizam has worked with me {Bijay} twice a week, exceeding all expectations I had! I feel so much stronger, more flexible with better balance. I have been able to do PT exercises I did not feel were possible for me.
Nizam’s encouraging and curious nature helped me question my own beliefs about my injury [ meniscus knee tear] and recovery. I have a better quality of life, can walk better and enjoy my at home practice to sustain my progress. My knee is pain free and I am able to walk with ease and practice my yoga daily. That was not the case when I began my PT.Tony, my husband, also worked with Nizam on a shoulder injury and was very happy with the outcome. Tony feels Nizam’s approach is highly professional and tailored specifically to his patients needs. Tony’s shoulder pain is gone and he is able to return to normal life.
Our heartfelt ‘Thank you ‘to Nzam and Carroll PT for a service and staff that are Elite! We have no hesitation in returning if ever we need to and recommending Nizam to others.

My teen son required physical therapy after sustaining a baseball injury that eventually required surgery. Dan Carroll and his team were recommended to us by a coach and I couldn’t have been more satisfied with that recommendation. From registration to discharge, every staff member we interacted with was kind, professional, knowledgeable, and super friendly. My son was actually disappointed when his therapy ended – he and his therapist, Nizam (aka “Z”) had really bonded and he looked forward to his 2-3x weekly sessions. It really felt like everyone at Carroll Physical Therapy not only loves working there, but truly cares about patient outcomes and that makes such a difference! This was an emotional set of events for our family, especially when surgery became an inevitability, but Nizam showed my son such support and gave him not only excellent care, rehabilitating him back to full performance, but also emotional support, helping him work through the fear and reassuring him that he would get back to the player he was before his injury. If you are looking for a recommendation for a physical therapy group, regardless of your age or rehabilitation needs, I would definitely recommend Carroll Physical Therapy without hesitation.Everyone I saw there (patients and families) left with a smile and was treated like family.
