Sports Rehabilitation in Denville

Built for athletes who need more than basic rehab: sport-specific testing, progressive loading protocols, and return-to-play criteria that actually match your demands.

Sports rehab vs. traditional physical therapy.

Traditional physical therapy has a fair finish line: you are out of pain and back to ordinary life. Sports rehab does not stop there, because ordinary life never asked you to decelerate on one leg or throw from a rotated position. So the target is different. Traditional PT asks whether it still hurts. Sports rehab asks whether the limb can produce the same force as the other one, in the position your sport puts it in, on the twentieth repetition.

That changes how the plan runs: baseline testing at the start instead of a vague goal, progression through loading stages rather than weeks on a calendar, clearance on numbers rather than on how you say you feel. Two of the therapists here came to this work from inside sport. Dr. Mary Ninivaggi, PT, DPT, ATC, AIB-VRC trained as an athletic trainer and was a multi-sport athlete, and she works on knees, lower-body injuries, and dynamic balance. Dr. Michael Locantore, PT, DPT went through his own tendon repair and six months of rehab before becoming a physical therapist, and now spends his time on return to sport.

Baseline Testing

We begin with sport-specific movement screens and performance tests to establish where you are relative to where you need to be. This gives us clear, objective targets, not subjective feelings.

Progressive Loading

Treatment progresses through phases: restore range of motion, build foundational strength, develop sport-specific power and coordination, then reintroduce the actual demands of your sport.

Return Criteria

You return to full activity when you pass objective tests: limb symmetry, power output, movement quality, not just when a predetermined number of weeks has passed.

Back to full competition, on evidence rather than hope.

A calendar knows nothing about your quad. Testing does. Going back when your numbers say the limb is ready is a different proposition from going back because it has been six months.

Full Return to Sport

Return to practice, competition, and training at the same or higher level than before injury.

Confidence in Your Body

Objective data, not just how you feel, confirms your readiness and gives you real confidence to compete.

Measured Performance Benchmarks

Limb symmetry, power output, and movement quality are tested and recorded, so progress is a number you can see rather than a feeling.

The Cause Addressed, Not Just the Injury

The mobility deficit, strength asymmetry, or training pattern that put the load there in the first place is part of the plan, because the same body meets the same demand when you go back.
